FAQ

Who is a Good Candidate for Veneers?

Dental veneers are a viable option for minor imperfections but not for major issues and have a fair oral health condition. Some of the imperfections that make someone a good candidate include:

  • Chipped teeth

  • Small gaps in between teeth

  • Cracked teeth

  • Misshapen teeth

  • Stains or discolorations

Although veneers can improve the look of misshapen teeth, the teeth must be straight for the porcelain to be properly attached. This issue must be addressed before veneers can be placed on a patient with crooked teeth.

Who is not a candidate?

We do not recommend getting veneers if  the patient

Has gingivitis

Has tooth decay.

Is missing posterior teeth

Has big space between teeth

If any of these happens, we recommend that the patient address these issues before proceeding with this cosmetic treatment.

How many veneers do I need?

To achieve your perfect smile with dental veneers, you will need a detailed assessment, a customized design process, and a precise application by an expert like Dr. Claudia Cardona and her team.

Are porcelain veneers permanent?

The procedure itself is considered permanent and irreversible since part of the teeth is removed to attach the veneers. On the other hand, porcelain veneers may last  15 to 20 years and need to be replaced by then. Their life span depends on several factors, such as oral hygiene, lifestyle habits like smoking, and regular dental check-ups.

Do porcelain veneers need to be replaced earlier?

Porcelain veneers are designed to be extremely durable. They do not require replacement unless they are damaged. If a crack or break occurs, they cannot be repaired with dental bonding and must be replaced.

Can I get back to my previous teeth?

Once the veneers are placed, removing them and restoring the original teeth is impossible since a tiny portion of the enamel was removed during the procedure to apply the veneers. Since the teeth cannot recover themselves, you will always need veneers.

Will porcelain veneers increase the risk of cavities or tooth decay?

Veneers function just like natural teeth, so the general standards for oral hygiene apply. As long as patients brush their teeth, floss, and visit their dentist for regular teeth cleanings, their risk of developing cavities or tooth decay is significantly low.

Will porcelain veneers appear whiter than the rest of my teeth?

The color of porcelain veneers is customized to match the rest of your teeth. Some patients choose to whiten the rest of their teeth with laser teeth whitening before they receive veneers to achieve an overall whiter smile.

Will porcelain veneers stain?

One of the key benefits of porcelain veneers is their incredible stain resistance. Unlike natural teeth that can become discolored over time, porcelain veneers maintain their original color, ensuring a bright and attractive smile.

Will porcelain veneers impact my diet?

Patients can continue to enjoy their regular diet with porcelain veneers. However, it's important to note that, as with natural teeth, chewing on hard, non-food objects or ice can increase the risk of cracks or chips. Fortunately, cracks and chips in veneers are very rare.

Is it going to hurt?

The process is 100% painless.

Do I have a less expensive option?

Yes, we offer less expensive options called Composite Veneers. These thin layers of resin aggregates are placed directly on the tooth's surface until they blend in with its color and shape, making them invisible to the naked eye.  There are several differences between Porcelain and composite veneers. The main one is durability. Since Porcelain Veneers are more durable, they are the only type we offer to international patients.

Will I regret getting veneers?

Most people are pleased to get veneers. They only regret having waited too long to restore their smile.

What are veneers
They are minimally invasive restorations that are placed on the dental tissue to change the shape, color, and size of the tooth.

What type of veneers
DIRECT VENEERS
They are thin layers of resin aggregates placed directly on the surface of the tooth until the tooth's color and shape are modified, making them imperceptible. They are done in a single step.
INDIRECT VENEERS
They are thin sheets that must be cemented on the tooth that was previously prepared (preparing the tooth means that, using a bur, a small layer of enamel between 0.2 to 0.5 mm is cut, forming the base where the final restoration will be adjusted or embedded. in porcelain or resin) indirect veneers can be:
INDIRECT RESIN VENEERS
Toothwear may be less with resin veneers
Pigmentation may occur in the future as it absorbs color from food and drinks.
They are more fragile and can fracture more easily compared to porcelain veneers.
Longevity can vary between 7 and 10 years.

INDIRECT PORCELAIN VENEERS
The longevity of porcelain veneers is much longer than resin and can vary between 12 to 15 years.

Do the veneers fracture or fall off?
Ideally, the veneers should not fracture or fall off, but if this happens, they could fracture because the patient has occlusal disharmonies or inadequate contact.
That is why the first step before starting to make veneers is to adjust the occlusion of the posterior teeth or the front teeth that are inappropriately contacting than to perform any additional procedure, this or these procedures that arise from the consultation will be charged additionally. initially stipulated.
FOR THIS REASON THE INITIAL ASSESSMENT IS SO IMPORTANT BUT THE CLINICAL ASSESSMENT IS MORE IMPORTANT.
After completing the clinical assessment, we may have some variation in the treatment, so the patient must take this into account.

THE VENEERS ARE ALWAYS WHITE OR THEY CAN BE ANOTHER COLOR
The shade of the veneers can vary depending on the breed depending on the patient's taste and we always opt for colors very similar to the natural tooth or even much whiter shades, reaching a very white white.

AT WHAT AGE CAN THEY BE PLACED
The ideal is to place them after the age of 18 when the tooth is already in its ideal position, when the teeth are already a little more mature and there is no adult age limit.
